Steelers win 4th & 5th grade Flag Football Championship!

Ridge Youth Sports Flag Football wrapped up its season on Saturday, Oct 29th for the 4th and 5th grade NFL Division.

In its second year, the league directed by Chris Gussin, had over 65 participants and provided a fun and competitive alternative to tackle football.

Each of the 6 teams participated in a highly competitive 10 game regular season and playoffs which culminated with the championship game at Mountain Park on Oct 29th.

The championship game featured a rematch of last years championship between the Bears (8-4), coached by Bill Ford, and the Steelers (11-1), coached by Dan Finkelstein. What started out as a tightly contested 0-0 defensive battle in the first half, quickly turned into a shootout with 7 touchdowns scored between both teams in the second half.

The Bears utilizing an aggressive passing attack, scored through the air 3 times led by Liam Ford (2 TD passes), Jake Dolan (1 TD pass) and Nathan Kahm, Elliot Hollander and Cole Jones each with 1 TD reception. The Steelers balanced offense spearheaded by Dimitri Romer (1 TD pass), Ryan Schmolze (1 TD reception) and Alexander Finkelstein (3 TD runs) were able to jump out to a commanding lead and hold on for the victory and repeat as champions.

The championship game marked an end to another successful RYSI Flag Football season, providing a great forum for the Basking Ridge youth to showcase teamwork, sportsmanship, camaraderie and most importantly fun.
