Basking Ridge, NJ - The Ridge Youth Sports Senior Rec Team has earned national recognition after capturing the 14Y Game Day Division title at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, held Feb. 6–8 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
Competing against elite recreational programs from across the country, the Ridge squad entered the national competition determined to build on the program’s tradition of excellence. The team delivered a strong showing in Saturday’s preliminary round, executing its Game Day routine with precision and energy to secure a coveted spot in the finals.
In the championship round, the athletes elevated their performance even further. Showcasing sharp motions, unified crowd-leading chants and polished execution, the team impressed judges with its timing, spirit and overall presentation. When the final scores were announced, Ridge stood atop the division, claiming the national title and capping months of dedication with a championship moment.
The athletes represent Ridge Youth Sports and attend William Annin Middle School and Oak Street Elementary School. Coaches credited the team’s success to consistent practice, attention to detail and a strong sense of camaraderie that developed throughout the season. Families and supporters traveled to Florida to cheer on the squad, creating a strong showing of Ridge community pride in the national arena.
Preparation for the championship began months ago, with athletes balancing school responsibilities and rigorous training schedules. Practices focused not only on technical skills and synchronization, but also on leadership, confidence and teamwork — hallmarks of the Game Day division, which emphasizes crowd engagement and sideline spirit.
The 2026 victory adds to an already impressive competitive résumé for Ridge Youth Sports. The program previously won a Game Day National Championship in 2020 and a Traditional Division National Championship in 2021. In 2025, Ridge reached the sport’s highest level, earning a World Championship title and further establishing itself as a powerhouse in youth cheerleading.
For the Senior Rec Team, this latest accomplishment represents more than a trophy. It reflects perseverance, commitment and the support of coaches, families and the broader Ridge community. As the athletes return home as national champions, they add another proud chapter to the program’s growing legacy of success.
