ARE PRACTICES MANDATORY?

RYSI Cheerleading has an attendance policy for the Spirit program.  Grades K-2 are not subject to this policy but absences at any age are discouraged.

This policy applies for Spirit cheerleaders in grades 3 through 5:

In order to fully participate, attendance at the August practices is required. Instruction in cheerleading is progressive and missing practices can result in a cheerleader missing important stunting instruction.  Consistent attendance leads to better technique and a reduced risk of injury.  If a cheerleader misses more than one (1) practice her participation in stunting will be at the coaches’ discretion.

·    Stunting instruction/evaluation will take place during the first week of practice in August.  If a cheerleader misses any practice during the August schedule, the cheerleader will be given an ‘alternate position’ in a stunt group and performance within a stunt group during the season will be at the coach’s discretion.

·    The only excused absences are for religious holiday observance or illness

·    Cheerleaders who miss a weekly practice after school begins may forfeit their stunting position for that week’s game or upcoming performance.

·    Cheerleaders who miss the pre-game warm up will not be allowed to stunt in the halftime routine

AFTER LABOR DAY, WHEN DO WE PRACTICE?

One weekday evening outdoors and one hour before games

All weekday practice days will be announced as soon as possible, pending field availability.

Spirit teams practice on Bernards Township fields in the fall.

DO WE CHEER FOR FOOTBALL GAMES?

All teams (K-5) will cheer a football game each week.  Football games on Saturdays begin the first Saturday (September 12th) after Labor Day.  K-2 grades will possibly have a one or two games on Friday nights in lieu of Saturday.  Grades 3-5 will have Home and Away games.  Playoffs and championship games for grades 3-5 continue through and including the Saturday before Thanksgiving (November 21st) and cheerleaders are expected to participate. Saturday game times vary depending on the grade.  Game schedule will be distributed during pre-season.  K-2 grades last games are around the end of October.
